Stockley Mbaruu Kauojao, Afas Kamutjemo, Mathew Kakururume and Muvare Kaporo in the dock at the Windhoek High Court When he went missing late in December 2012, those who used to know him instantly knew that something had gone seriously wrong for him to be out of reach. Majora Wilfred Hiambepo Kazeurua was not one to go for days without being in touch with his people. Treason Lawsuits

A landmark appeal judgement by the Supreme Court in one of the lawsuits filed by men acquited of treason in the Caprivi Treason Trial may make it difficult for the remaining lawsuits to succeed in the Windhoek High Court. Richwell Mahupelo had sued the State for N$ 15.3 million and partly succeeded in his claim in the High Court, prompting the State respondents to appeal. His release and lawsuit followed that of Rodwell Kasika Mukendwa, who was released on 10 August 2012 as the first person accused of treason to go free for lack of evidence against him. Hereros and Damaras share a mother

The neutral name Ovaherero communities give people from the Damara community is Omutakume or Omuzorotua. There has never been any doubt that Otjiherero-speaking Angolan and Namibian communities like Ovatjimba, Ovahimba and Ovazemba come from the same root. These communities do not only share related languages, but most are pastoralist and share a tradition and culture. These cattle-keepers are proud communities, which had regarded other communities to be of lesser worth than them. When a typical, uncivilized Omuherero addresses a person from a community other than his/her own, the tone will emphasise some superiority. The neutral name these communities give people...

An uphill battle for the Genocide lawsuit

Judge Laura Taylor-SwainJudge Michael ParkJudge Ralph K WinterJudge Rosemary PoolerThe judges in two separate US courts who made rulings that bogged down and possibly stopped the Ovaherero and Nama Genocide lawsuit from bringing justice to both communities. Ovaherero and Nama communities wishing to litigate in the United States of America (USA) for justice for the 1904-1908 Genocide that nearly wiped out both communities and completely changed their ways of life for the worst have met two disappointments in their case there. On 11 March 2019, Judge Laura Taylor Swain of the US District Court in the Southern District of New...
