In one of the most alarming caution the Namibian Police has released, it is warning those who buy cookies on the street that they could be laced with a drug to induce addiction.
She says that they have arrested a number of people in Windhoek and Katima Mulilo selling cookies and brownies laced with the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
A man 23 year old man police arrested at Pioneerspark in Windhoek had on him some 103 cookies and brownies he had been selling laced with THC. He was charged and his case is under investigation. Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi warns everyone buying food items on the street to be cautious of buying cookies or brownies that could turn the person into an addict.
But their biggest concern at this stage is the potential of inducing the symptoms of overdose, including convulsions and even death for anyone, who unknowingly consumes three or more of these spiked pastry treats.
Police suspect that drug dealers are targetting youthful people including high school learners and university students to induce them into drug use and get them addicted to drugs.
They are urging everyone to be cautious and not buy cookies or brownies from strangers.
