The sought after Otjituezu Brahman’s pedigree

ETUPA, ONYAMA NOUKOZU (bone, beef and tameness) are the core values of Otjituezu Brahman and top qualities in all Brahman studs it sells to farmers.

Farm Otjitueze lies in an ancestry of elders who once lived near Ondekeremba, a vast area covering the present day Hosea Kutako International Airport, expanding east- wards up to the White Nossob and in the north-westerly direction.

Otjituezu was taken away from families.
Jacques Mutjavikua, son of Katuta Mutjavikua, son of Kakuru Mutjavikua (grand father) and the Otjiramba ma- ternal clan took memories of Otjituezu he had heard from his father, grandfather and other elders and used them to build a farm he bought in the district of Grootfontein in the memory of their lost settlement. He is the nephew of Hameva, who is known as Vader Kandjii.
It has been a long and difficult journey for Jacques, who bought Farm Vreugde in 2004 and started his commercial farming with cross breeds, which were all commercial cattle. “ It has been a learning curve. I started rearing studs of other breeds and learning about their strenghts and weaknesess,” Jacques says.

As he started finding his feet in the farming business, Jacques introduced the Simbra. A curious farmer with the desire to only offer the very best, he started seeing a farming trend, which started with the Brahman as the source of all cross breeding of livestock in Namibia and South Africa.

“I started being intrigued by the reason why Brahmans had remained central to most cross-breeding of stud cattle like Simbra, Beef Master,Droughtmaster and others,” he says.

Otjituezu Brahman was born out of a wealth of knowledge Jacques, Kumbee and his brothers collected about the Brahman’s qualities. It has the ability to walk long dis- tances, which makes it resilient to drought, and produces meat with good fat content. It stores fat in the hump, has a black mouth and eyes which protects it from radiation and from developing skin problems, and its motherly instict makes it a fierce protector of its calves.

Otjituezu Brahman had to find its position and develop a pedigree of the Brahman studs on a sound foundation, enrich it with sought after genetic material and consis- tently produce cattle, which espouse its values of a cow or bull that is able to birth offsprings with etupa nonyama (bone and beef).

Searching for this bull required of Jacques, Rukee Uan- dara and McLeod Marenga to visit ranches, outposts and farms all across Southern Africa. When they found a good meat bearer, it lacked in durability. When they found a well-built bull, its weight appeared less defined. This search for the perfect Otjituezu bull and herd took them years.

However, it all came to an end with a tour of a farm in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
The group found for the first time bulls of a Brahman breed with the bone, beef and tameness (etupa, onyama noukozu) worthy of being called an Otjituezu Brahman.

The one that stood out the most was the bull R10 158-10, Sir Jordan the World Congress Reserve Champion of the year 2014.

Etupa, onyama noukozu are the core values of Otjituezu Brahman and top qualities in all Brahman studs it sells to farmers. Otjituezu Brahman’s pedigree bulls Sir Jordan ( R10 158-10) and Simon (R10 10-16) were sired from R!0 Champion Bull Power’s blood line.

Power Manso R10 67-02 holds some of the best records of siring champion bulls and cows, and its bloodline can be traced to the United States of America. The R10 founders Llewellyn and Corrie Labuschagne have been Otjituezu Brahman mentors for years. Jacques says the advice, tips and ideas the couple has shared with him has helped Otjituezu Brahman become what he envisioned it to be,

and to continue achieving acclaim and repute as a breeder of a unique, productive and award-winning Brahman breed.

Sir Jordan, the World Congress Reserved Champion of 2014, came to put Otjituezu Brahman on the map and won Best Breeding Bull of the year at the Grootfontein Show 2018. All its bulls and heifers went on to win first or second prizes in several competions, which helped estab- lish Otjituezu Brahman as a leading breeder of Brahman in Namibia. It further won Ras Champion (2018) at Okakara Trade Fair.

Simon was Class Champion at Bela Bela Show, Junior Champion and Reserve Champion at the Grootfontein Show 2018. It is a young, strong bull with great etupa nonyama potential.

As we continue to take farming to the next level, Otjituezu Farm, the home we have founded after our forebears lost theirs near Windhoek has been set on the right foundation to help a thousand more farmers boost their livestock, by introducing our bulls into their herds with dazzling results.

Power is Power Manso R10 67-02, a serial world champion and foundational pedigree of Otjituezu Brahman, which sired its successful breeds.
Royal Salute (R10 02-86) The R10 bloodline has two branches, each with a top quality gene pool and Royal Salute has sired that blood line. But Simon has sired all the cows. Mbaandja Tjipuka stands nose to nose with an Otjituezu Brahman cow. They are all as tame as this one.
